Fund Management & Fiscal Sponsorships

CFVI manages more than 100 named funds, administers scholarships and community programs, awards grants, and coordinates the establishment of memorial funds. To donors, CFVI offers a complete tool kit for charitable giving, expert assistance in learning more about the causes they care about, and the opportunity to join others with similar interests to give together.

In the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, several new funds were established, while some existing funds shifted their focus to supporting hurricane relief and recovery efforts.

CFVI works with donors to provide information and guidance to assist them with achieving their philanthropic goals through grant-making and program support. The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands takes care of government reporting, grant paperwork, auditing, and accounting. The Foundation provides financial oversight to assure donors that their contributions are used in a way that is consistent with IRS regulations and are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. CFVI’s financial statements are audited each year by an independent financial auditor. Most important, you will have joined hundreds of others who have perpetuated their giving to benefit the community. It is this legacy that is true philanthropy.

CFVI also provides low-fee (2.5% – 10%) fiscal sponsorships to assist smaller, non-profit initiatives with the financial (income and expenses) and reporting aspects of programs (examples include Dancing Classrooms of the VI – a past fiscal sponsorship, now its own 501(c)(3) – and the annual Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge).

The Community Foundation receives its funding from individuals, private foundations, local organizations, local businesses, and federal and local government grants. CFVI is unique among community foundations because we charge NO ADMINISTRATIVE FEES to our funds, and minimal fees to our fiscal sponsorships. Generous CFVI Angel annual donations of $500 or greater support all programs, operating costs, and much of CFVI community outreach each year.
