(U.S. Virgin Islands) – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI), in partnership with Crucian Heritage and Nature Tourism (CHANT) and the United States Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, has set the date for the installation of the first Little Free Library (LFL) on St. Croix, to be placed in front of the Frederiksted Health Care Center on Strand Street. The new date is July 5, 2019, at 11 AM. We invite the public to attend.

The concept of the Little Free Library was introduced by CFVI to provide free books and promote literacy in the Territory, particularly in the wake of the damage and disruption of hurricanes Irma and Maria. The project has come to fruition thanks to important partnerships. The USVI Department of Tourism helps to plan and maintain the libraries, while My Brother’s Workshop and CHANT design and build the Little Libraries, providing training and employment opportunities to the young people in their programs. Funding for the project is generously provided by Princess Cruises Community Foundation (PCCF) and First Bank VI. Project plans are to install many more Little Free Libraries throughout the Territory.

“At CFVI we are so excited about the Little Free Library project. We are proud to champion this initiative to increase access and enjoyment of books for readers of all ages. And we are honored to be working with wonderful partners such as CHANT, My Brothers Workshop, Princess Cruises Community Foundation, FirstBank VI and the Department of Tourism” said CFVI President, Dee Baecher-Brown.

*Little Free Library (LFL) is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading and building communities by fostering book exchanges around the world.
