On March 12, the first Virgin Islands Little Free Library was installed at the WICO dock in Havensight!

When the Princess Cruises Community Foundation approached CFVI about how to make a difference following the 2017 hurricanes, we knew that we wanted to take a unique approach to addressing some of the pre-existing challenges facing our community, and our children in particular. We proposed the Little Free Library project and are pleased to see it come to fruition in partnership with the USVI Department of Tourism and My Brother’s Workshop. Plus, yesterday’s installation included groups of students from Howard University and Alaska University who chose to spend their spring break doing service projects on island.

With the installation completed and books being stocked and donated, we had quite a few excited children contemplating which book they would select. This is the first of many LFLs that will be erected across the Territory. CFVI is proud to champion this initiative to increase access and appreciation for readers of all ages!

*Little Free Library (LFL) is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading and building communities by fostering book exchanges around the world.
