Library Speaker Series on VI History, Culture and Research
CFVI awarded a grant to the Caribbean Genealogy Library, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, to support the Library’s Speaker Series on VI History, Culture and Research. The Series featured both in-person and virtual presentations covering Virgin Islands history, research skill building, access to digitized records, research writing techniques, genealogy research, and the creation of historical short stories. The project significantly benefited community members in the USVI and abroad, promoting ongoing learning in humanities, particularly history, and enhancing research and writing skills.
During a workshop focused on family history, a participant eagerly took home handouts and family tree chart printouts. Within just two days, he returned with a completed four-generation family tree, expressing excitement to continue his research and uncover more stories about his ancestors. This impact story, along with others, highlight the grant's success in promoting historical knowledge and community engagement.
