Federation of State Humanities Councils, with support from the Mellon Foundation, Offers a $50,000
Challenge Grant!
Your gift today will go twice as far in supporting humanities programs in the Virgin Islands through CFVI’s Humanities Council of the Virgin Islands (HCVI).

In response to significant funding cuts from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Federation of State Humanities Councils, with generous support from the Mellon Foundation, awarded a one-time $200,000 grant to each state and territorial humanities council—including HCVI.
Now, they have gone one step further:
Every dollar you give (up to $50,000) will be matched—doubling the impact to $100,000 for Virgin Islands humanities programs.
Why Your Support Matters
The humanities are the heartbeat of the Virgin Islands—preserving our stories, celebrating our diverse cultures, and inspiring new generations. With federal funding cuts, your support is essential to keep Virgin Islands culture alive and thriving.
Last year, CFVI awarded $232,000 in humanities grants to nine organizations across the islands, including the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts (CMCArts). Lisa Mordhorst, executive director of CMCArts, shared:
“CMCArts has elevated the quality of our exhibitions, raising the bar for our community…The Voice of the
VI has been celebrated through beautiful exhibitions and programs that bring our community together in
a safe space to celebrate our regional identity… We’re grateful for your support and for the opportunity
to explore humanities more deeply and with great intention.”
Together, We Can Double the Impact
Your donation today will help HCVI close the gap left by federal funding cuts and ensure that Virgin Islands stories, traditions, and heritage are preserved and passed on to generations to come!
