U.S. Virgin Islands—The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) is pleased to announce that the annual academic scholarships for graduate, undergraduate, and vocational students are now available. The Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for children, youth and families in the Territory by making enriching opportunities attainable. Funds for these offerings are provided through the generosity of CFVI donors.

In 2017, CFVI awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to students in the St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John districts. “There are few things I find as rewarding as giving out our scholarships annually,” said CFVI President, Dee Baecher-Brown. “We are helping students achieve one of the greatest goals of their entire lives—an education.”

The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands will be awarding annual scholarships based on the following criteria requirements. An applicant must:

  • Be a senior in or graduate of a US Virgin Island high school;
  • Be enrolled in or have applied for admission to an accredited four-year institution with a program leading to a Bachelor’s degree; For graduate scholarships, a student must be currently enrolled in or have applied for admission to, an accredited institution with a program leading to an advanced degree (Master’s, Ph.D., JD, MD, etc.); For vocational school scholarships, a student must be enrolled at the Raphael O. Wheatley Skills Center.
  • Demonstrate financial need.

Selection will be based on the student’s overall financial need, academic progress, extracurricular activities and answers to essay questions. Applications for undergraduate, graduate and vocational scholarships can be submitted through an online portal at https://www.cfvi.fluidreview.com/. New applicants must create an account with Fluid Review before they begin the application process. Applicants will receive a confirmation email once the account has been established. Returning applicants should use the same log-in information they used to apply the previous year. The deadline to submit a scholarship application is April 6, 2018. In the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, we know that many of our students are now faced with challenges that may delay the opportunity of pursuing higher education. Now, more than ever, we are kindly asking individuals, businesses and organizations to consider establishing a scholarship fund with the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands. With your support, Virgin Islands students can continue to thrive in their academic careers and become the future leaders of our Territory. If you are interested in donating to an existing scholarship fund or establishing a new scholarship fund, contact our Development Director, Katrin Braddell, at katrinb@cfvi.net.
