U.S. Virgin Islands – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) is hosting open house sessions on Saturday, April 7, 2018, on St. Thomas and St. Croix for all CFVI scholarship applicants. Students that have limited access to technology are welcome to attend the open house from 10 am – 2 pm at the Writing Center at the University of the Virgin Islands Albert A. Sheen campus on St. Croix and at the office of the Community Foundation at 5150 Dronningens Gade on St. Thomas from 10 am – 4 pm.

Computers will be available for students’ use; however, individuals that have laptops are encouraged to bring their own, as the number of available computers is limited. CFVI staff will also be available (in-person on St. Thomas and by phone on St. Croix) to provide additional assistance to scholarship applicants. Students that will be working on pending applications can contact Brittany Brin Robinson, Rosalyn Rossignol or Anna Scarbriel at 340-774-6031 for technical support.

In the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, we understand that many students and their families are faced with a number of challenges that may impede access to our online application portal. These open house sessions are intended to ensure equal opportunity for students to complete their applications before the deadline, which has been extended to April 13th. Students with limited access to technology are also encouraged to utilize the UVI Writing Center on St. Croix, Mon-Fri from 9am- 5pm and the Territory’s public library system to complete applications. The Charles Turnbull Library (St. Thomas) and Florence Williams Library (St. Croix) are open Mon-Fri 10am-5pm.

Scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria/requirements. An applicant must:

  • Be a senior or graduate of a USVI high school; (Students that were displaced by Hurricanes Irma and Maria who were formally enrolled at a USVI high school or college during the 2017-2018 school year are also eligible to apply.)
  • Be enrolled in or have applied for admission to, an accredited four-year institution with a program leading to a Bachelor’s degree; For graduate scholarships, a student must be currently enrolled in or have applied for admission to, an accredited institution with a program leading to an advanced degree (Master’s, Ph.D., JD, MD, etc.); For vocational school scholarships, a student must be enrolled at the Raphael O. Wheatley Skills Center.
  • Demonstrate financial need.

Selection will be based on the student’s overall financial need, academic progress, extracurricular activities and answers to essay questions. Applications for undergraduate, graduate and vocational scholarships can be submitted through an online portal at https://www.cfvi.fluidreview.com/. A separate application form is available for displaced students. Select the undergraduate scholarship application in the drop-down menu that is labeled, ‘(for displaced students only).’ New applicants must create an account with fluid review before they begin the application process. Applicants will receive a confirmation email once the account has been established. Returning applicants should use the same log-in information they used to apply the previous year. The deadline to submit a scholarship application is April 13, 2018. For technical assistance, contact our Communications Manager, Brittany Brin Robinson, at bbrin@cfvi.net or 340-774-6031.
